Regional & Subregional Forecasts
ABAG is responsible for forecasting changes to the Bay Area population and economy to help local governments prepare for an ever-changing environment. Plan Bay Area 2050+ was adopted by the ABAG Executive Board and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in March 2026, and the Plan Bay Area 2050+ Growth Pattern shows the plan’s projected household and job growth at the regional, county and sub-county levels looking out to 2050.

Forecast and Modeling Data
In addition, data resources accompanying Plan Bay Area 2050+ are available. Before downloading data, please review the technical notes, which contain important information on the methodology and limitations of each dataset.
- Regional Growth Forecast: regional total population, households, employment and housing units available for years 2020, 2025, 2030, 2035, 2040, 2045 and 2050.
- Sub-Regional Growth Forecast: households and employment by county and super-district available for years 2023 and 2050.
- Transportation Analysis Zone (TAZ) Land Use: localized land use data, mainly for travel modeling purposes and not a formally approved plan deliverable available for years 2023, 2035 and 2050.
