The Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) depicts the area where human-made structures and infrastructure are found in or adjacent to areas prone to wildfire.
The 2018 Wildland-Urban Interface Fire Threat Whitepaper characterized the state of wildfire planning in the Bay Area in 2017, including a characterization of fire risk in the Bay Area and the maps available to jurisdictions to characterize their wildfire risks. The document also curates the primary wildfire planning documents available in 2017 and catalogs the wildfire mitigation and adaptation strategies. An appendix in the report provides a summary of the WUI fire building code.
In addition to the whitepaper, the Wildfire Strategies Spreadsheet strategies compendium offers an extensive inventory of local wildfire mitigation and adaptation measures, featuring 360 strategies searchable by jurisdiction and/or type, this resource offers a wealth of options to start with in developing local hazard mitigation plans or other fire hazard planning documents.
