The San Francisco Bay Trail Now Connects Oakland to Yerba Buena Island

For the first time in history, pedestrians and cyclists have the chance to travel across the new East Span of the Bay Bridge using the new San Francisco Bay Trail from Oakland to Yerba Buena Island. The 15 1/2 -foot wide pathway accommodates both cyclists and pedestrians. The path will be open on most weekends from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. beginning on Saturday, November 5th. The pathway will remain closed during the week to accommodate dismantling of the old bridge structure, and other closures are still possible. For the most up to date information regarding pathway closures, visit http://www.baybridgeinfo.org/search/node/bay%20trail.

Until now, the Bay Bridge Trail came to a dead end shortly after the bridge's signature tower. All but a short segment of the 4 1/2 mile-long trail opened in Fall 2013, days after the bridge's new East Span opened to vehicles.
