Time Running Out to Register for ABAG’s General Assembly
Housing is the issue dominating the headlines in the Bay Area right now and will be a major element of the annual General Assembly meeting of the Association of Bay Area Governments, Thursday, June 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center.
A panel discussion, “Housing Opportunities and Challenges,” promises a stimulating conversation on how to address the formidable regional challenge that is drawing national and international attention. A period for questions and answers will be part of the discussion.
The issue at hand: There is a chronic housing shortage at all levels; How do we tackle the problem?
Brad Paul, deputy executive director for Local Government Services for ABAG-MTC, will moderate the lively discussion on the critical, and sometimes divisive topic that will significantly impact the future of the Bay Area.
Panelists including — Fremont Mayor Lily Mei, Burlingame Mayor Donna Colson, Sonoma Supervisor David Rabbitt, and Guy Marzorati, politics reporter and producer for KQED —will discuss a range of local approaches to dealing with the housing crisis and provide insights into the issue.
Do not miss this thought-provoking panel; housing is an issue that touches every voter, town, city and county across the region.
Presentation of the Bay Area Metro Awards will kick off the day, honoring more than a dozen people, programs and projects that are advancing the Bay Area’s mobility, environment, resiliency and housing needs as part of the program. The new joint awards program is presented by ABAG and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
The conference also includes a Business Session where town, city and county delegates discuss the ABAG Budget and Work Plan for fiscal year 2019-2020. The business meeting portion requires the attendance of GA delegates or the alternate from each jurisdiction. A quorum is needed to act on key issues, so don’t let your city, town or county be left out.
