ABAG’s Regional Housing Technical Assistance Program has developed the following resources to help planning staff develop or refine objective design standards for multi-family residential and mixed-use projects:

An Objective Design Standards Handbook - including the full Handbook in pdf format, and the InDesign files, Word files and image files for each section of the Handbook as separate downloads.

A staff report template

These resources provide a how-to manual for creating objective design standards that are rooted in a community’s design values and its existing policies. They provide curated design standards and zoning graphics for a range of building and site design topics that planners can select from and refine to meet their community’s needs.
