As a regional land use planning agency, ABAG’s data and research are widely used by local governments to make decisions when planning for change and growth in their communities.
The research and forecasting team provides a range of research activities, including:
- Forecasting the region's population and employment every two to four years, providing recent trends to help cities plan for the future
- Conducting original research on trends and policies affecting the region's well-being
- Working with planning and agency groups to maintain comprehensive data sets and mapping capabilities that allow our region to make decisions
- Providing extensive analytic support for many programs: Plan Bay Area, Regional Housing Need Allocation, Resilience Program, assisting local governments with housing element updates and the Economic Development District
The team also collaborates with other agencies to analyze, evaluate big data, and provide our perspective on major issues affecting the Bay Area now, and in the future.
