Welcome and Introductions
The Bay Area housing market is in crisis. A booming regional economy and rapid population growth has led to exceptionally high rents, a severe lack of housing supply, displacement and extreme commutes. We will offer suggestions and solutions during this time of crisis.
Al Savay, AICP · BAPDA Chair; Community & Economic Development Director, City of San Carlos

9:10 am

Building and Sustaining Mixed Income Communities
Most of the housing built in recent years has served higher income residents. Does luxury housing cause displacement or help prevent it by adding to housing supply? How can local housing strategies help ensure that growth benefits everyone? The speaker will focus on strategies and innovations in building urban development equitable to all.

Speaker: Rick Jacobus · Principal, Street Level Advisors

9:40 am

Innovative Strategies for Alternative Housing
Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) can enable living arrangements that support aging in place; accommodate family members who cannot compete in the open market; and grant affordable access to established, high-opportunity, high-amenity neighborhoods for small-household lower-income renters who would otherwise be excluded. Panelists will brief us on current legislation and replicable best-practices, as well as relevant policy and political context.

Moderator: Duane Bay · Assistant Planning Director, Association of Bay Area Governments

Panelists: Bob Brown, AICP · Community Development Director, City of Novato;

Michelle Littlefield · Project Planner, City of Redwood City;
